Description and theory

Dmadd9 can be seen as a D minor triad with an added ninth (E) and is comparable to Dmadd2. It is usually played as an open chord (although it's hard to find natural fingerings), and sometimes it's played as a barre chord or closed chord as a movable shape.

Chord structure

The chord consists of four notes. The notes represent the root, minor third, perfect fifth and major ninth intervals. Notice that the seventh isn't included and also that the fifth sometimes can be omitted.

Chord name

Dmadd9 is an abbreviation for D minor added ninth. A less common abbreviation is Dmin add9.
