Description and theory

Fm11 is usually played as one of three movable shapes depending on the most suitable position on the fretboard, and less often played in open positions due to the absence of natural fingerings.

Chord structure

The chord consists of six notes. The notes represent the root, minor third, perfect fifth, minor seventh, major ninth and perfect eleventh intervals. Notice that the fifth and/or the ninth are sometimes omitted.

Chord name

Gm11 is an abbreviation for G minor eleventh. A less common abbreviation is Gmin11. A third system is the minus symbol: G-11.
