F11 is usually played as one of three movable shapes depending on the most suitable position on the fretboard. Although two of the chord notes are present among the open strings in standard tuning, there are no natural suitable fingerings in open positions.
Chord structure
The chord consists of six notes. The notes represent the root, major third, perfect fifth, minor seventh, major ninth and perfect eleventh intervals. Notice that the third, fifth and/or the ninth are sometimes omitted.
Chord name
F11 is an abbreviation for F dominant eleventh. A less common abbreviation is Fdom11.
Notes
The notes that the F11 chord consists of are F, A, C, Eb, G and Bb.
Inversions
1st inversion: F11/A (means that A is the bass note).
2nd inversion: F11/C (means that C is the bass note).
3rd inversion: F11/Eb (means that Eb is the bass note).
4th inversion: F11/G (means that G is the bass note).
5th inversion: F11/Bb (means that Bb is the bass note).
Omissions
F11(no3) is an F 11th with no third (A).
