E11 is usually played as one of three movable shapes depending on the most suitable position on the fretboard, or played in open positions.
Comments
Another option with the root on the 4th string is XX2234, in which case the 5th and 9th are omitted (this version has partly the same shape as D11 played as XX0012).
Chord structure
The chord consists of six notes. The notes represent the root, major third, perfect fifth, minor seventh, major ninth and perfect eleventh intervals. Notice that the third, fifth and/or the ninth are sometimes omitted.
Chord name
E11 is an abbreviation for E dominant eleventh. A less common abbreviation is Edom11.
