Description and theory

Dm6 is usually played as a movable shape or in open positions. A third alternative is to play it as a barre chord (although the pictured barre shape doesn't give much room for the fingers).

Chord structure

The chord consists of four notes. The notes represent the root, minor third, perfect fifth and major sixth. Notice that the fifth is sometimes omitted.

Chord name

Dm6 is an abbreviation for D minor sixth. A less common abbreviation is Dmin6. A third system is the minus symbol: D-6.
