Description and theory

Dbm7 is equivalent to C sharp minor 7th. There are few simple and natural fingerings in open positions for this chord in standard tuning. Because of that, the chord is mostly played as a barre chord or in closed positions.

Chord structure

It consists of four notes, though depending on the instrument, some notes may be doubled or tripled. The notes represent the root, minor third, perfect fifth and minor seventh intervals. Notice that the fifth is sometimes omitted.

Chord name

Dbm7 is an abbreviation for D flat minor seventh. A less common abbreviation is Dbmin7. A third system is the minus symbol: Db-7.
