Description and theory

Bm11 has several natural fingerings in open positions, but is also often as played as one of three movable shapes, depending on the most suitable position on the fretboard.

Comments

The X20230 version omits the 5th and 9th. Another option is the X20220 version, which includes the fifth (C#), but it comes with a slight dissonance between C# and D. A less common possibility is X22230.

Chord structure

The chord consists of six notes. The notes represent the root, minor third, perfect fifth, minor seventh, major ninth and perfect eleventh intervals. Notice that the fifth and/or the ninth are sometimes omitted.

Chord name

Bm11 is an abbreviation for B minor eleventh. A less common abbreviation is Bmin11. A third system is the minus symbol: B-11.
