The chord consists of five notes. The notes represent the root, major third, augmented fifth, minor seventh and ninth intervals. Notice that the third is sometimes omitted.
A9#5 is an abbreviation for A dominant ninth with a sharpened fifth. Other abbreviations are A9(#5) and A9+5. Notice that the chord also can be named as A9b13.
